Paper Crowns

Paper Crowns is an ongoing series that plays with the idea of status and power. I’m drawn to the contrast between the crown as a symbol of wealth and royalty, and paper as something fragile, recyclable, and easily thrown away. The women in these paintings sit and stand in regal poses, yet they are not royalty and have no desire to be. Instead, the work questions why these symbols still carry weight, and how ideas of success and importance can be temporary, constructed, and quietly rejected.
